Capitalism Russian-Style provides a progress report on one of the most important economic experiments going on in the world today: the building of capitalism in Russia. It analyzes the role of the mafia, the new financial empires, entrepreneurs, business tycoons, and the shrinking Russian state. Thane Gustafson tells how the Soviet system was dismantled and the new market society was born, and examines the prospects for a Russian economic miracle in the twenty-first century.

Author Bio
Professor Gustafson works on domestic politics and policymaking of Russia and the former Soviet Union, as well as the politics of energy and climate change. He has published five books on Russian affairs.
His latest books are Wheel of Fortune: the Battle for Oil and Power in Russia (Harvard UP 2012) and The Bridge: Natural Gas in a Redivided Europe (Harvard UP 2020). He is currently working on a new book called Klimat: the Future of Russia in the Era of Climate Change.
