Book Description

CBD otherwise known as Cannabidiol is the cannabis compound of the moment. Controlling epileptic seizures, reducing inflammation, and easing chronic pain are just some of its reported benefits. But researchers are looking into a potential use for CBD that might just surprise you - as a pharmacological treatment for treating substance abuse and addiction.Yes, you heard it right. A compound found in cannabis, the plant classified as a Schedule 1 drug because of its purported 'potential for abuse, ' is currently the subject of several clinical trials testing its efficacy for treating addiction to everything from heroin, cocaine, amphetamine, tobacco, alcohol, and even cannabis itself. The fact that CBD is non-addictive, non-psychoactive, is safe to take in doses up to 1500 mg a day and appears to reduce the drug cravings and anxiety experienced by addicts, means that CBD shows great promise as a non-toxic way to aid the addiction recovery process. In recent years, drug addiction has become an increasingly common problem. One prime example which has received a lot of press is the opioid epidemic that has been sweeping across the United States. It is now estimated that over 130 people die from opioid overdose every day - a shocking figure by anyone's standards. However, it is not just opioids which are responsible for drug-related deaths. Although opioids, including prescription painkillers such as fentanyl, and heroin accounted for the majority of drug-related deaths in 2017, cocaine and benzodiazepines are also a significant cause for concern and are responsible for 14,556 and 10,684 annual deaths respectively. While the government is taking measures to improve this situation by facilitating access to treatment and recovery centers and revising pain management practices, it appears that another solution could be emerging, and that is CBD.Proponents of marijuana legalization say that CBD oil, or cannabidiol oil, cures everything. The fact is, however, that there is very little research to determine one way or the other what disorders can be positively impacted by use of the substance. Concrete studies into the function and potential use of the drug have remained primarily at the cellular level and with rodents as subjects. While there is no research that shows that CBD oil is effective in the treatment of addiction, its ability to help people living with an active addiction successfully manage other issues that may contribute to their use of drugs and alcohol may yet be shown. The concept of addiction has expanded to include behaviors, such as gambling, as well as substances, and even ordinary and necessary activities, such as exercise and eating. The key is that the person finds the behavior pleasurable in some way and engages excessively in the behavior as a way of coping with life. By the time a person is addicted, the behavior will be causing more problems in a person's life than it solves.Addiction is a lot more common than you may think. Although frequently linked to alcohol and hard drugs, it's actually possible to become addicted to pretty much anything
