The transatlantic economic crisis has largely subsided in the United States which - short of a congressionally induced leap over the fiscal cliff - is well on the way to normalization. The situation in Europe remains volatile. It also carries the seed for Euro-American discord, as politicians and economists on both sides of the Atlantic lecture one-another on fiscal responsibility and the need for more/less fiscal stimulus, government regulation...the list goes on. This issue of Hampton Roads International Security Quarterly assembles eleven analyses by economists and monetary experts from Europe and the United States. The essays are partly in the vein of lessons learned (or not learned) from the recent crisis, and partly discussions of the overall future of European economic and monetary integration. The contributions are presented in chronological order based on when they were written, to allow readers to take the progression of events into consideration as they follow the various arguments.
